Pickering is a beautiful
market town dating from 270BC with many tourist
attractions including the steam railway running
from Pickering to Goathland and on to Grosmont,
The North York Moors which has some of the most
scenic walks in England and looks particularly
stunning in August when the heather is in full
bloom.
There are many seaside villages and towns and
the ever popular city of York is to the south.
There are a number of historic houses open
to the public. Duncombe
Park at Helmsley, restored
after being a girls school for the previous sixty
years, is one of the nearest to Pickering.
